The Most Important Issue

In my mind, poverty is the most concerning problem our world faces today. The number of people living in poor living conditions and who lack a proper education, a solid income and enough food is untenable. However, poverty is not just a problem within itself; it is the root of so many other issues. Poverty can lead to overpopulation because people are having large families without knowing the consequences. It can also lead to corruption because people do not have the experience or the education to run a government well. I believe we can not place a band-aid over this 'wound' by handing out money and hoping for the best. The key to fighting poverty begins with an education, and providing that requires a lot more time and energy than we are willing to sacrifice.

  1. Jennie, I enjoyed the way in which you tackled this question. Specifically, when you said that we cannot put a bandaid over this problem. I completely agree with you on that.

  2. Jennie,
I completely agree with you. Poverty is a global issue that covers so many other issue such as education, corruption, health care, and overpopulation. I love your comment about " I believe we can not place a band-aid over this 'wound' by handing out money and hoping for the best." You've hit the nail on the head! As you probably already know I'm a huge supporter of such solutions as micro credit financing and foreign direct investment. Along with education I believe that these under developed nations could become real contributors to the world. Great work Jennie!

  3. I agree with your assessment of poverty being the most important issue facing this world. So many other issues are born from poverty, such as hunger, poor health care, corruption, etc.
